Keep what makes you happy, and refuse what doesn’t spark joy. You can do this with your financials. After keeping an eye on your basic needs to live, look at where you want to spend your money, and spend it good. You are making yourself happy, not others.
I took this formula from a really good book called, “I Will Teach You to Be Rich” by Ramit Sethi.
He talks about covering your basis, save a little through automated transfers, and spend guilt free. This book is so funny, informative and easy to apply.
Spending formula on a monthly basis:
50%-Living Expenses; rent, groceries, utilities, insurance…
30%-Saving; IRA, 401K, Stocks, Bonds, and even a downpayment for a home.
20%-Guilt Free Spending; shoes, lattes, makeup, vacations, cars…
