24 Hours in Austin, TX

Phone, Check!

Wallet, Check!

Lip gloss, Check!

Let’s hit it!

Y’all, the first city in this series is Texas’ capital, Austin. I love visiting Austin for 4 mouth-watering reasons; food, coffee, greenery, and beautiful shirtless joggers. There is so much to see, eat and do, but I was able to put together a great escape.

Revival Coffee was my first stop. When I found about it during my previous trip to Austin, I wasn’t able to go. I was devastated, so I promised myself that I would visit next time I’d be in the city. Well! It’s next time, and I got there the moment I landed.  Let me tell you! I AM DECEASED! Everything is pink with neon signs. You might think I love it just for the aesthetic, but bisssshh the coffee is so good, smooth, and strong. I got myself An Iced Demi Latte with vanilla. I was so impressed! most times the looks are better than the coffee, not this time. As I sipped on my yummers caffeinated liquid, I took bomb selfies, and you bet your ass it went to IG. Sorry not sorry.

I was running ahead of schedule so I decided to check into my room before dinner reservation. I stayed at the Hilton by the university area. The hotel is gorgeous, super clean and friendly. I just wish it was closer to downtown. Which turns into my first lesson: Splurge on the hotel that is in the area you are going to spend most of your time in. With Ubers, Lime, and long walks, it’s just easier to get a close by hotel.

I’m sure y’all thought I RSVP’s at Uchi’s, but I didn’t. I did try xD, but no luck, I needed to do that months before my arrival. Odd Duck was my main bae of the evening, and wow! She delivered. The energy was so put together, and the service was very friendly and relaxed, yet professional.

My appetizer was a red snapper ceviche with chips made in house. As I had this delish dish the charming bartender told me about how Odd Duck tried really hard to make sure the meals included locally sourced ingredients. A boujee farm to table if you will. I had to check my vegan ass at the front door because I had an American Wagyu with a salsa verde bean salad, soubise, and patatas bravas. All of this went down with a hazy local IPA. What a moment! the details, the presentation, she slayed.

I needed to get away from Odd Duck ASAP! otherwise I would have ordered the entire menu and I wanted space for dessert and maybe a late night snack. My sweet tooth guided to… you guessed… coffee! I got myself an Orange Cream Latte with oat milk at Better Half Coffee and OMG, it was so cream and delicious. It really did hit the spot after dinner.

The Next Day

Come morning I needed to be firm with my schedule, I really needed to keep it together because after brunch I needed to make way to the airport. Just because it was a shorter day in Austin, it didn’t mean that it was eventless. No, besties. I think it was equally fabulous. So I went to get coffee. What? it was in the morning and I wanted my fix. So I took a scooter and rolled into Lucky Lab Coffee, cute place to take the fur babies and enjoy a creative cup of coffee. I sat on the patio and absorbed the scrumptious humidity and sipped on my Longhorn Brûlée Late with caramelized orange and vanilla bean syrup.

As I packed up and completed my check out, the anticipation kicked in to be at my next and final stop. Brunch at Bar Peached. I am so happy I made reservations. there was a line even before they opened. It looks like it is very popular, and for good reason. This place gave me IG, pastels, airiness, chicness…

This southern fusion spot was everything you want at brunch. I started my meal with Sichuan peppered brussel sprouts with peach and sesame, and fried shallots. Along with that I had my cocktail, a strawberry Aperol Spritz. *Chef’s Kiss*

My main dish is very interesting, and this is in the best way! Bar Peached manage to turn the classic bacon, egg and cheese into a different delivery method, and that is noodles. Udon noodles to be exact! The Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Udon was beautifully put together, I got the pork belly coming through those cheese covered noodles and the egg yolk covering each bite with a rich comforting blanket. UGH! truly life changing.

So there, no more excuses. There is time for travel and to try new things. Great tool to get out of the routine that we so much want but can be depressing at times.

As always, safe travels!
